Who We Are
Serving the American Winemaking Community
The Enological Supply Organization (ESO) was established in 2017 as a California non-profit organization and has seven members representing the U.S. enological supplier community.
ESO is a wine industry advocacy group that works closely with U.S. trade organizations to improve legal language, industry practices, and standards that benefit the competitiveness of the U.S. winemaking industry.
ESO’s goal is to reduce regulatory barriers and improve industry practices and standards that will enhance the competitiveness of the U.S. wine industry at home and abroad.
In the past, ESO successfully lobbied for the inclusion of wine yeast in the CA Board of Equalization’s tax exemption list. This change came about due to a reinterpretation of the law dating back to 1961. Previously, wine yeast was subject to taxation. Now it is recognized as exempt, considering its significance in the final wine product and aligning with exemptions for beer yeast. The wine yeast tax exemption resulted in several million dollars of sales tax refunds, paid out by the suppliers to wineries.
ESO continues to apply its mission of sharing and promoting ideas that support and cultivate the US winemaking community and address challenges in the U.S. regulatory market.
